Oakdale is a city situated in the state of Minnesota in United States. The city is located in the Washington County, and lies on the eastern side of Twin Cities metro area. Oakdale is not densely populated, and the Census of 2000 showed that the city had a population of approximately 26,000. Owing to this, it ranks 31 on the basis of population in the state. The city is also home to different cultures, and thus provides a peaceful environment for the residents. The city is spanned over an area of 11.3 sq miles of which 11.1 sq miles is land area. The present city of Oakdale can be said to be the result of the consolidation of two townships. These are Oakdale and Northdale Townships. The consolidation took place in 1970's.

The education system in the city of Oakdale is governed by the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale school districts. Since the city does not have much of water systems, the main employment options are service and personal business. The headquarters of 3M Corporation are situated near to the city, and this acts as the main source of employment for the city residents. An important site here is the World headquarters of Imation.
